16 students were rushed to the hospital on Friday night after a swarm of bees attacked a school tour at Kambi Samaki, Baringo North.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the group comprised 174 pupils, eight teachers and five drivers from CITAM Woodley Primary School in Nairobi, who were visiting the Lake Baringo area when the incident occurred.

The Kenya Red Cross said 16 pupils were stung, with five suffering severe reactions that required urgent medical attention.

Witnesses told   Kenyans.co.ke that several students sustained injuries during the attack as panic spread among the group.

📌 What You Need to Know

Emergency response teams from the Kenya Red Cross, working alongside county and national government officials, responded to the scene and assisted the affected learners.

Most of the injured pupils were treated and later discharged from a health facility in Marigat Town after receiving medical care.

In an update issued at 9pm, the Kenya Red Cross said all the patients were in stable condition.

Bee swarm incidents are not uncommon around Lake Baringo, one of Kenya's leading honey-producing regions, with more than 135,000 beehives spread across the county.

The large bee population occasionally results in swarming incidents when wild or managed colonies are disturbed by human activity or changing weather conditions.

Previous attacks have disrupted normal activities in towns surrounding the lake, including Kabarnet, where swarms have forced businesses to close temporarily.
