The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has assured Kenyans that the iTax system is operational after sections of taxpayers reported being unable to access the site on Friday, June 19, with just 10 days left before the June 30 tax filing deadline.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

As thousands of taxpayers flock to the platform to submit their annual returns, some reported the site was either down or loading slowly.

A spot check by  Kenyans.co.ke identified several taxpayers reporting varying issues with the system, saying it was not functioning optimally.

“iTax is not working. Even a simple thing like reprinting a certificate is failing,” one taxpayer said on X.

📌 What You Need to Know

“Why is iTax closed?” another questioned while tagging the taxman.

Perhaps the most telling message came from Kennedy Kipkorir, who wrote, “Please turn on iTax. We want to file and give you money. Your system is down.”

In response, KRA asked Kennedy to share his details for assistance. “Hi Kennedy, please DM and share your PIN details,” the authority said.

The complaints come just days after more taxpayers raised concerns over access to the platform, with one user reporting on June 17 that, “Your iTax portal wants me to verify my mobile number before proceeding, but it's not sending the OTP.”

The complaints also followed scheduled maintenance that saw KRA take the system offline for four hours last weekend.

Kenyans.co.ke conducted a preliminary analysis of the platform on Saturday, June 20, and found the system was working seamlessly despite the reported intermittent access challenges.
