The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that four suspected gangsters were shot dead during a dramatic operation along the Eldoret-Kiplombe-Soy Road.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke on July 6, DCI confirmed that the shootout happened after detectives from the Operation Action Team, who recovered a Falcon Pistol , working closely with local police, acted on a tip-off from vigilant members of the public.
Officers had set up an ambush following credible reports that a gang was terrorising motorists along the busy road while posing as police officers.
“Four armed gangsters were fatally shot and a loaded Falcon pistol recovered after the suspects engaged detectives in a fierce gun battle during an intelligence-led operation along the Eldoret-Kiplombe-Soy Road,” stated DCI.
📌 What You Need to Know
“The incident unfolded after detectives from the Operation Action Team (OAT), augmented by local law enforcement officers acting on credible information from vigilant members of the public, laid an ambush.”
The suspects reportedly walked straight into the trap, and when detectives closed in, they refused to surrender and instead opened fire on the officers.
A fierce exchange of gunfire followed, and by the time it ended, four suspected gangsters lay fatally wounded at the scene.
Two of their accomplices, however, managed to slip through the dragnet, escaping on motorcycles towards Eldoret town as the operation unfolded.
At the scene, apart from the loaded Falcon pistol with six rounds of ammunition, detectives also recovered a homemade pistol and one spent cartridge.
Investigators also found a hammer, crude housebreaking tools, balaclava masks, gloves, and ropes, all pointing to a gang ready for violent crime.
