Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has revealed that a contractor responsible for constructing one of the roads in Ol Kalou constituency reportedly withdrew equipment from the area after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) lost in the July 16 by-elections.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, August 9, Kuria said the Chinese contractor pulled out machinery from the Ithagani-Gorika-Kanyarere Road project after what he described as concerns over insecurity.
According to the former CS, the situation arose after supporters of the newly elected MP allegedly pulled down signage that had been erected at the road project site, prompting the contractor and his staff to feel threatened.
Kuria, who was leading development projects in Ol Kalou before the by-election, said he had promised the residents of continued projects despite the outcome of the election.

However, that promise cannot hold as of now due to what he termed as the insecurity of contractors and those taking on work in the area due to political affiliations.
"Because I got reports, I promised the people of Ol Kalou that, irrespective of the decision that they took on July 16, every other development project that was going on there will be completed. And I'm very much committed to that," Kuria stated.
"And then I got this report that from the road contractor, a guy called Cheng Li, Chinese guy, that he's withdrawn the equipment for one road, one of the roads I'm very proud of, called Ithagani-Gorika-Kanyarere Road, because of perceived insecurity," he added.
Kuria, who has also served as President William Ruto's advisor, said the contractor's decision followed incidents in which supporters of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Waweru Ngotho, who won the poll, allegedly removed road project signage after the election.
"And because the guy won, his supporters went and put down even the signage that was there for the roads. And of course, the contractor and their staff, they felt threatened and they have pulled back," he said.
He termed the withdrawal as unfortunate, arguing that residents across the country would welcome projects such as roads and electricity regardless of their political affiliations.
