The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) plans to expand the Nairobi Intelligent Transport System (NITS) into Phase II, with city junctions expected to get CCTVs and e-police units for real-time monitoring.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

This follows a new bid by KURA, as seen by  Kenyans.co.ke dated August 11, which pushed back the original August 4 deadline for the Ksh10 billion smart traffic project by two weeks.

Bidders now have until 11am on August 19 to submit their proposals, according to a notice from the authority's Nairobi office.

The bid opening date has also shifted to the same day, thus giving contractors extra time to fine-tune their submissions before the new cutoff.

📌 What You Need to Know

“The Kenya Urban Roads Authority hereby informs all prospective bidders that the deadline for submission of bids for the above-mentioned procurement, which was initially scheduled for 4th August 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Nairobi Time has been extended to 19th August 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Nairobi Time,” KURA stated.

KURA issued an addendum on July 20 through the Public Procurement Information Portal (PPIP Portal), notifying all prospective bidders of the schedule change and its implications.

Everything else about the tender, including its requirements and conditions, stays exactly the same, as confirmed by KURA in its latest statement.

Bidders are still expected to raise a bid security of Ksh129 million and must remain eligible under South Korea's Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) loan guidelines.

Kenya secured a Ksh10 billion loan (USD83.8 million) from EDCF to finance this ambitious upgrade.

Once complete, the project promises to change how Nairobi manages the scourge of perpetual traffic jams, using real-time monitoring technology across the city.
