Police in Nakuru County have arrested seven people suspected of belonging to a criminal gang during an intelligence-led operation at Githioro Market.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Officers from Githioro Police Station raided one of the market stalls on Sunday, August 9, after receiving information that suspected gang members were hiding there.
The suspects were found inside the stall and arrested during the operation. Police recovered pangas and axes from the hideout, which were seized and preserved as exhibits.
One of those arrested was also found to be wanted in connection with a separate defilement case reported at Githioro Police Station on July 25, 2026, according to preliminary investigations.
📌 What You Need to Know
The seven suspects remain in police custody as detectives complete investigations and prepare them for arraignment in court.
The arrests come amid continued police efforts to disrupt criminal gangs in Nakuru, with authorities conducting intelligence-led operations targeting groups accused of terrorising residents in different parts of the county.
In April, police arrested 28 suspected gang members during a crackdown in Nakuru East, covering areas including Kaloleni, Freehold and Railway Stage. The operations have highlighted continued concern over organised criminal activity in parts of the county.
Police have continued to rely on information from residents to identify suspected gang hideouts and track individuals believed to be involved in criminal activities.
The latest operation at Githioro Market shows the role of intelligence in helping officers locate suspected criminals before they can move to other areas.
The gang crackdown comes as Nakuru also faces other high-profile investigations involving alleged wrongdoing by public officials. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission recently arrested seven current and former senior Nakuru County Government officials and a contractor over alleged procurement fraud involving more than KSh120 million.
