The party also endorsed Energy Minister Deogratius Ndejembi as its nominee for the position of Vice President, following an emergency meeting of its leadership in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, August 26.
The decisions were reached during meetings of the CCM Central Committee and National Executive Committee (NEC), chaired by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, according to The Citizen .
CCM Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro announced Nchimbi's expulsion on Wednesday night, citing violations of the party's rules and regulations.

"The NEC has held its meeting to discuss disciplinary action on Emmanuel Nchimbi and, after reviewing all the evidence and statements available, has decided and reached a conclusion that CCM's rules and laws were flouted. As a result, Nchimbi has been removed from the party," Migiro said.
The expulsion came a day after Nchimbi announced his resignation as Vice President and retirement from politics and public service, with the move set to take effect on September 4, 2026.
Nchimbi, 54, tendered his resignation to President Samia on Tuesday this week, citing constitutional provisions governing the voluntary resignation of holders of senior public offices.
President Samia accepted the resignation, with Nchimbi saying he had become convinced that the Tanzanian leader wanted a change in the Office of the Vice President.
"I have become convinced beyond doubt that the President wants change, and I have therefore decided to fulfil my promise," Nchimbi said in his resignation statement.
Nchimbi had previously pledged to President Samia that he would serve with integrity and step aside if she ever felt the need to appoint a different Vice President.
