In a statement on Friday, August 28, the agency said 173,811 national IDs, 39,063 birth certificates and 95,538 smart driving licences had been processed and were ready for collection.
Huduma Kenya’s announcement followed reports that several Kenyans experienced difficulties obtaining their documents, prompting the agency to clarify the situation.
In particular, some online users questioned how such critical documents could be delayed for weeks and even months, with some tagging the agency and the Immigration Department.
📌 What You Need to Know
“We understand that there are concerns online that Kenyans are not receiving their IDs, birth certificates and driving licences,” Huduma Kenya stated while addressing concerns raised by Kenyans.
The agency encouraged those who had already applied for the documents to check whether their applications had been processed and visit the designated centres where they applied to collect them.
“We have got tonnes of uncollected vital documents. Put a reminder on your phone to pick them up,” Huduma Kenya added.
While addressing the matter, the agency also announced extended working hours at 21 selected Huduma Centres to give Kenyans more time to collect their documents.
Huduma Kenya said the selected centres would operate for 12 hours, specifically from 7am to 7pm , allowing members of the public to visit before or after their normal working hours.
The extended-hours centres are Makadara, Kibra, Eastleigh, City Square, Thika, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nyeri, Bungoma, Embu, GPO, Meru, Laikipia, Kisii, Kitale, Kericho, Kakamega, Kisumu, Mombasa, Migori and Makueni.
