A postmortem examination has confirmed that the two individuals who died during the chaos at Nembure Stadium in Embu over the weekend, sustained fatal gunshot injuries.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The examinations were conducted at the Embu Level 5 Hospital mortuary by government pathologists and Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) representatives, led by hospital pathologist Dr Rosemary Kamau.
Pathologists determined that one of the victims died from severe head trauma caused by a single gunshot wound to the head, which resulted in skull fractures and extensive brain damage.
“Moses had a single gunshot wound to the head, which had an entry and exit, causing brain damage with cranial fractures. As a result, we concluded that the cause of death was a severe head injury secondary to a single penetrating gunshot wound to the head,” Kamau said.

The other victim, on the other hand, sustained a single gunshot wound to his right leg, an injury that caused a compound fracture of the right femur and extensive bleeding around the affected area.
Pathologists concluded that he died from severe haemorrhage resulting from the fracture caused by the gunshot wound.
“Mike Lewis had a single gunshot wound to the right leg, which caused a compound fracture with massive surrounding hematoma. The cause of death was severe haemorrhage secondary to a compound right femur fracture, secondary to a single penetrating gunshot wound,” Kamau stated.
The pathologist explained that no bullet was recovered from either body because both injuries had entry and exit wounds.
Investigations into the deaths remain ongoing following the autopsy results, concurred with by Dr Job Mwali, that revealed the nature of the victims’ fatal injuries.
The deaths occurred during confrontations at Nembure Stadium on Saturday, September 12, as Deputy President Kithure Kindiki led a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) mobilisation meeting for polling centre officials.
