The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has moved to extradite a Chinese national wanted in Uganda over alleged fraudulent activity worth about Ksh 151 million.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 25, the ODPP said the 39-year-old is accused of manipulating weighbridge records and payment vouchers while working as a cashier at a Ugandan steel company.

“The DPP has today filed extradition proceedings against a 39-year-old Chinese national wanted by the Government of Uganda to face criminal charges arising from an alleged fraud involving UGX 4,533,379,400 (approximately Ksh. 151 million),” the statement read.

Prosecutors said he used his access to financial and payment operations to carry out the alleged fraud.

“He allegedly exploited his access to the company’s payment documentation and financial processes to facilitate the offences,” the DPP added.

Uganda formally requested Kenya’s assistance in June, seeking enforcement of an arrest warrant and the suspect’s return to face charges.

According to the ODPP, the request was initially dated April 18, 2025, and was transmitted through the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice.

The suspect was arrested on August 11 at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after arriving in Kenya from Zimbabwe.

His arrest was carried out by officers from the Directorate of Immigration Services acting on the Ugandan warrant.

Prosecutors have asked the court to order his surrender to Uganda, where he is wanted over 30 counts of forgery and one count of theft.
