Citizen TV journalist Trevor Ombija has claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua contacted Royal Media Services (RMS) management seeking his dismissal following a heated interview.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Ombija made the revelation on Friday, September 18, while addressing residents during his campaign for the Nyakach parliamentary seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The Monday Report and Day Break presenter said Gachagua sought to have him removed from the media company after the two clashed during an interview in March 2026.
“As I stand here to address you, the former Deputy President Gachagua once called for my dismissal from work because we confronted each other,” Ombija said.

The 38-year-old news anchor further claimed that his ethnic background was also cited in the confrontation surrounding his position at the media company.
However, Kenyans.co.ke could not independently verify Ombija’s claim that Gachagua contacted RMS management to demand his sacking. Neither Gachagua nor RMS had responded to the claims by the time of publication.
The revelation comes months after Gachagua publicly criticised Ombija and other Ramogi TV presenters following a tense interview in March.
During the interview, Gachagua accused Ombija of bias and unprofessionalism, claiming that the journalist was putting words into his mouth and framing questions unfairly.
“Trevor, you have been very biased in this show, which has been very unprofessional,” Gachagua said during the closing moments of the interview.
The former DP questioned why he had been invited to the programme, which he described as a “tribal show”, while responding to allegations of tribalism. Ombija, however, maintained that Gachagua had requested the interview.
