In a statement on Tuesday, May 26, CMA said the approvals cover several collective investment schemes comprising new unit trusts, special funds and an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) in efforts to deepen Kenya's capital markets.
According to the regulator, the products are expected to broaden access to regulated savings and investment opportunities for Kenyans, which will range from conservative money market products to multi-asset and event-driven investment strategies.
"The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has approved the registration of several Collective Investment Schemes, comprising new unit trust schemes, special funds and an alternative investment fund," CMA stated in a statement.
📌 What You Need to Know
"The approvals will broaden the range of regulated savings and investment options available to Kenyan investors, from conservative money market products to actively managed multi-asset strategies and alternative investment vehicles, " it added.
Among the approvals is the Capital A Multi Asset Strategy Special Fund in both Kenyan shillings and US dollar denominations.
The funds, to be managed under the existing Capital A Unit Trust, will pursue actively managed multi-asset strategies targeting investors seeking diversified exposure across different asset classes.
The approvals come amid a growing number of Kenyans investing in forex and shares as the public seeks higher returns and protection against currency volatility.
The authority said the move forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen Kenya’s capital markets, encourage innovation, and expand access to investment services across different investor segments.
It further urged investors to familiarize themselves with investment schemes before committing funds and to deal only with licensed and approved capital markets intermediaries.
