Prominent leader and vocal orator of the Jacaranda "Bunge la Mwananchi", the people's parliament, leader, Evans Kawala, has been reportedly abducted.

The incident, which took place on Tuesday evening, May 26, has sparked condemnation from youth and opposition leaders, including Siaya Governor James Orengo.

According to the Siaya governor, Kawala was abducted for simply speaking truth to power.

"Tonight, the Ruto administration resorted to desperate measures by abducting Evance 'Kidero Jasuba' Kawala, a vocal champion of the Jacaranda Bunge La Mwananchi, simply for speaking truth to power," Orengo stated.

He further reassured the grassroots movement that a legal team was already moving to trace Kawala's whereabouts.

"To the Bunge La Mwananchi family : stay firm. We are actively on this case and will see it through to the end," he added.

Orengo termed the abduction a weakness of President William Ruto's government, demanding the immediate release of the leader.

"Oppression only signals a government's weakness. You can abduct a critic, but you cannot chain the spirit of defiance. We demand his immediate and unconditional release!"

The alleged abduction comes days after Kawala made some remarks against Ruto's government, going as far as criticising the head of state.

His recent comments came after Ruto's security was breached in Ganze , Kilifi County, on Sunday, May 24, when a man managed to reach him at the presidential dias, putting his security at risk.
