The High Court has granted cash bond of Ksh1 million each to two suspects linked to the Dr Victoria Mutiso murder case.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The two, a lawyer and her co-accused, were arraigned over allegations of possessing a stolen  Range Rover Sport valued at Ksh15 million.

Investigators told the court the luxury vehicle was allegedly stolen from the disputed 21-acre Mlolongo land parcel which sits right at the heart of the ongoing probe of Dr Mutiso’s murder.

Detectives said the probe now extends beyond the vehicle, delving into the exact relationship among the lawyer, her co-accused, and her own mother, who is also a suspect.

📌 What You Need to Know

The lawyer's mother remains in custody together with her brother, under a 21-day detention order issued earlier by the court.

Their case took a fresh turn after the prosecution sought seven more days to hold them beyond the initial 14-day period as told by the judge presiding over the case.

“Upon expiry of the 14-day period, the prosecution seeks a further seven days of custodial orders on the basis that although the investigations have been completed, the file has been forwarded to the ODPP for perusal and directions,” the judge stated.

According to the judge, the investigations into the mother and son had already been completed, but the file was forwarded to the ODPP for review, however, the court was told by the ODPP that it has not yet communicated whether the two should be formally charged.

Prosecutors argued the extra week was necessary to give the ODPP enough time to study the file and issue directions.

“The ODPP is yet to communicate its decision on whether the respondents should be charged or not. It is the prosecution's position that the additional seven days are necessary to enable the ODPP to consider the file and issue appropriate directions,” stated the judge.
