Kajiado Governor Joeph Ole Lenku has threatened to leave the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, including leading the Maasai community out of the party, citing dissatisfaction.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Speaking on Saturday during a public event in the county, Lenku accused the ODM top leadership of continued disregard for ODM leaders in the county, accusing them of supporting candidates from rival parties.

The governor questioned the decision by some ODM officials to publicly campaign for a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate seeking the Kajiado governor seat in the 2027 general election.

"I am an ODM governor, and my deputy is seeking to be governor under the same party. A month ago, we saw ODM leaders came here to campaign for a UDA candidate. That is betrayal.," Ole Lenku stated.

📌 What You Need to Know

The governor said the move amounts to betrayal of ODM supporters in Kajiado who have remained loyal to the party.

Lenku called on ODM leader Oburu Odinga to intervene and give an apology , warning that failure to address the issue will lead to mass exodus from ODM and the community might join other factions, including the Linda Mwananchi faction.

"We want to tell Odinga Oburu, that we are still waiting for an apology, or else odm will be closed in kajiado. we will join the linda mwnanchi team," he added.

According to the governor, ODM party officials should respect supporters who have continued to back the party in the county instead of campaigning for candidates from competing political parties.

If the situation persists, Lenku warned he would mobilize the Maasai community to reconsider its relationship with ODM and possibly ditch the party.

The Kajiado governor race in 2027 has intensified with Lenku's deputy, Martin Moshisho Martine, seeking to replace his boss.
