Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has outlined the timeline for disbursements to hospitals under the Social Health Authority (SHA) amid concerns over delayed payments to county governments.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
During a press conference on Thursday, June 2, Duale revealed that SHA will be disbursing about Ksh16 billion in the next two days for the month of July.
According to the CS, the upcoming payment will cover the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF), the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), the Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHC).
“In the next two days SHA is going to pay Ksh16 billion for the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund, the Social Health Insurance Fund, the Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund and for the Primary Healthcare Fund,” he said.
📌 What You Need to Know
Additionally, the CS revealed that SHA has already disbursed Ksh14 billion for the past month, insisting that payments were actively being processed as he spoke .
Duale assured that the confirmation would be published on SHA’s website for the public to verify by Friday, July 3.
Further, he said SHA owes county governments Ksh6.3 billion, dismissing circulating claims about the owed amount as false.
His remarks followed recent news reports citing Controller of Budget (CoB) data showing that SHA’s outstanding claims were at Ksh26.87 billion as of March 31, which raised concerns about the impact on health facility operations at the county level.
“SHA only owes the county governments Ksh6.3 billion as of today. What you saw in the media is false, inaccurate and misleading,” he said.
Duale maintained that the government has detailed digital records of all claims, including those that have been rejected and returned.
