The National Treasury has officially kicked off the process of preparing the Finance Bill 2027, months earlier than usual.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Through a public notice dated July 27, the Treasury has invited Kenyans and other stakeholders to submit tax policy proposals for consideration.
This marks the formal beginning of a budget cycle that has been deliberately compressed ahead of the typical schedule.
Unlike previous years, the public consultation on tax proposals has begun earlier, with the Treasury aiming to complete and submit the Finance Bill to the National Assembly in January 2027.
📌 What You Need to Know
Proposals should target specific tax law amendments, along with clear justifications backed by evidence or solid economic analysis.
Stakeholders have also been asked to submit ideas on East African Community (EAC) Customs measures, including tariff changes and duty remission schemes.
The notice further emphasises that all submissions must align with the government's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which pushes for growth through a value chain approach.
Kenyans wishing to participate have until August 31 to send in their proposals , either physically or via email.
This comes barely two weeks after the Treasury announced separate public participation on PAYE band adjustments.
The reason behind the early start is attributed to the fact that 2027 is an election year, and the country goes to the polls on August 10, 2027.
