The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested three people, among them a sitting Member of County Assembly (MCA), over the illegal possession of a firearm in Nairobi.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Patrick Karani, the MCA for Embakasi East Sub-County, found himself on the wrong side of the law after detectives raided his office in the Roasters area of the city.

DCI confirmed his arrest on June 23, when he was arrested alongside two other men, as investigations into the matter remain ongoing.

Detectives recovered a Glock pistol from the MCA's office, together with a magazine loaded with 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition, all secured as exhibits.

“Three suspects, including a Member of County Assembly (MCA), are now behind bars following a police operation at the Roasters area of Nairobi that led to the recovery of a Glock pistol,” stated the DCI.

The arrests were made after the DCI determined that the firearm was being held without a valid licence through preliminary investigations, which is a criminal offence under Kenyan law.

All three suspects remain in custody as investigators process the necessary paperwork ahead of their court arraignment, as confirmed by the DCI.

The arrest of the trio comes hours after  Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai was detained at Nakuru Central Police Station on Monday night, moments after presenting himself to detectives investigating violent clashes that disrupted a youth empowerment programme in Kuresoi North last week.

The MP surrendered to the DCI after days of being sought by police over a gun drama that left three people nursing gunshot injuries during the event attended by leaders allied to Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.

Similarly, the Senate Committee  on National Security on June 22 also ordered the arrest of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika after she repeatedly ignored summonses tied to an ongoing inquiry.
