The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed key areas in Nairobi where officers have been arresting people accused of obtaining money through false pretences, theft, and running scams.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigation Officer Setim Kandie said that DCI officers have arrested several suspects in areas including Kilimani, Westlands, and the Central Business District (CBD)

Speaking to the media in Nairobi, Kandie said the suspects have already been taken to court as detectives intensify operations against criminal networks.

He went ahead and warned the public to remain vigilant and not fall for false pretence schemes, including people using different tactics to obtain money.

📌 What You Need to Know

“We are warning them and assuring the public that they should not fall prey to these scams,” Kandie said.

Over the past few months, DCI has been carrying out heavy investigations and arresting culprits who have been found in gang phone theft rings within Nairobi and its neighbouring counties.

Additionally, a few weeks ago, DCI sent out a notice to the public warning them of money scammers who are now ‘sharp girls or boys’, warning that if caught, they would face the consequences.

The DCI boss also raised concern over criminal groups operating in the CBD and heavily populated estates, particularly those involved in phone snatching and causing public disturbance.

He added that ongoing operations are targeting the phone snatchers and those who receive stolen phones, since they want residents to walk comfortably along the streets of Nairobi without having to worry about having their phones snatched.

“We want people in CBD moving around comfortably, using their phones and calling their loved ones,” he said.
