The Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) has launched investigations into the torching of a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politician’s Mazda CX-5 along Thika Road during protests.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

DCI confirm that they collected videos online to stitch up the investigations, after viral videos emerged showing individuals believed to be among the prime suspects behind the incident.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has received and is currently analysing viral video footage that is believed to feature individuals among the prime suspects involved in the torching of a Mazda CX-5 along Thika Road during today’s protests,” stated DCI.

The vehicle was set ablaze during chaotic scenes that unfolded as protesters clashed along the busy highway, leaving motorists stranded.

📌 What You Need to Know

The investigative body further appealed to Kenyans who may recognise individuals appearing in the circulating footage to cooperate with authorities by sharing any information that could help detectives track down those responsible for the criminal act.

“The DCI urges members of the public who may recognise any individuals captured in the footage or possess relevant information regarding the incident that may aid in the ongoing investigations to share the information promptly at the nearest police station,” urged DCI.

The DCI reiterates that this incident not only endangered lives but also resulted in significant property damage, and investigations remain active.

This is not an isolated incident targetted towards pro-government politicians. Yesterday during a press briefing the Interior Cabinent Secretary Kipchmba Murkomen revealed that Khetias Supermarket belonging to a UDA politician was also torched.

Moreover,  a UDA party office in Wote, Makueni County, was also burned down amid the escalating unrest with the Interior CS promising to bring those involved to book.

Additionally, protesters turned destructive as supermarkets in Naivasha and Nyeri were looted, alongside a Coca-Cola depot in Kitengela and various shops in Meru, causing widespread commercial losses across multiple counties.
