🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a notice on Sunday, July 5, DCI noted that the incident happened in the Westlands area of Nairobi on Saturday, July 4, at a restaurant along General Mathenge Road.

According to the detectives, they are pursuing four suspects who arrived on two motorcycles, stormed the premises, stole valuables from customers and escaped towards the Parklands area after discharging two rounds into the air.

"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has commenced investigations into a robbery with violence incident that occurred yesterday at a restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Westlands Sub-County, Nairobi County," DCI stated in a statement.

📌 What You Need to Know

"Four unknown suspects on two motorcycles stormed the restaurant, robbed customers of valuables, discharged two rounds into the air, and fled towards the Parklands direction," it added.

The probe began after widespread CCTV footage captured the attack, with the public raising concerns over insecurity, especially in the capital. According to the footage, two armed robbers stormed the cafe at around 10:35 pm, after being dropped by two motorcycles.

Upon entering the cafe, the two men brandish their guns before commanding customers seated inside.

In the footage, the suspects appear to move swiftly through the premises, with terrified customers seen attempting to comply as the situation unfolds.

In what appears to be the attackers ordering customers to surrender their belongings, they are seen taking phones and other accessories belonging to the customers at gunpoint as the robbery unfolded within the establishment.

In less than 30 seconds, the robbery had already come to an end, and the robbers had already left the premises, hoping to get to the motorcycles waiting for them outside.
