In a statement on Sunday, July 5, DCI announced that Jhanda had been summoned to appear at a police station to record a statement over the attacks.

The summons comes as DCI continues to expand its probe into the Friday incident during a political tour in the area, which saw several vehicles in a convoy allegedly stoned and damaged.

"The Hon. Zaheer Jhanda, MP for Nyaribari Chache, has this morning been summoned to appear before the Kisii County DCI office in connection with the ongoing investigations. " NPS said in a statement.

📌 What You Need to Know

According to the statement, the MP was required to appear before the Kisii County DCI offices to assist with ongoing investigations aimed at establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The summons comes after a group of armed youth were captured on Friday in a video that has since gone viral on social media, pelting stones at the Edwin Sifuna-led convoy, while some are captured armed with weapons, targeting the vehicles.

The incident happened along the highway as the Linda Mwananchi leaders moved to Keroka from Kisii for a rally.

Besides the summons, detectives confirmed the arrest of four more suspects linked to the attack, bringing the total to seven. This was after three suspects were arrested on Saturday.

"The operation, led by the OCS Keumbu and DCI Kisii Central, has resulted in the successful arrest of four additional suspects, bringing the total number of arrests to seven," police added.

After the attack, Linda Mwananhi leader Edwin Sifuna said he had reported the matter to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, asking him to fast-track investigations into the matter.
