The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a five-day specialized training course on money laundering and terrorism financing, aimed at sharpening Kenya's officers' capacity for financial crime investigation.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The training announced on June 22 is running at the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA) and brings together investigators from across the country for hands-on instruction in financial intelligence and asset tracing.
It is backed by the Government of Türkiye through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), reflecting years of strong diplomatic relations between the two nations.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has today launched a five-day Combating Money Laundering and Financing Terrorism course at the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA), reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the country's capacity to investigate and disrupt financial crimes,” stated DCI.
📌 What You Need to Know
Participants are being taken through identifying suspicious financial transactions, spotting red flags of terrorism financing, and applying international best practices to tackle financial crime.
The training also targets crimes ranging from corruption and cybercrime to narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, and terrorism, all of which often share one common thread: illegal financial flows.
The partnership with Türkiye is not a coincidence. Türkiye ranks 48th out of 195 countries on the Oxford Insights Government AI Readiness Index and 31st out of 36 nations on Stanford University's Global AI Vibrancy Tool, reflecting moderate foundational AI capabilities.
In national security, Türkiye commands significant global standing, ranking 9th out of 145 countries on the Global Firepower Index , underscoring the country's strong defense capacity and operational military strength.
In cybersecurity, Türkiye ranks 56th on the National Cyber Security Index while simultaneously holding a Tier 1 status on the ITU Global Cybersecurity Index, signalling robust legal, technical, and cooperative cyber defense measures.
This collaboration comes at a time when Kenya ranks 4th in Africa for organised crime and money laundering, according to the ENACT Organised Crime Index.
