Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango has claimed that Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) youth official Justin Kinyua has been abducted by hooded men, accusing the government of allegedly intimidating young people over their political beliefs.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a statement on Tuesday, August 4, the senator condemned what he described as growing political persecution of youth, alleging that Kinyua was forcibly taken to an unknown destination by unidentified individuals.
Murango claimed the incident had heightened concerns over the alleged misuse of police and government institutions to silence young people expressing opposing political views.
"Justin Kinyua has been abducted and is being driven to an unknown destination, raising serious concerns about the growing misuse of police and government machinery," he stated.
📌 What You Need to Know
The vocal senator argued that government institutions should protect citizens and uphold the rule of law instead of being used to suppress political dissent, particularly among the youth.
According to Murango, continued intimidation of political opponents risks fueling public anger and deepening mistrust in government institutions.
While demanding the immediate release of Kinyua, the lawmaker further declared that he would stand with young people facing what he termed political arrests, intimidation and persecution.
"No young person should be silenced or victimised for holding a different political opinion. Together, we shall stand for justice, democracy and the protection of every young person's rights," Murango said.
The Kirinyaga senator also revealed that he, alongside Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Kigumo MP David Mathenge, was following up on the matter to establish Kinyua's whereabouts.
Murango insisted that political differences should be resolved through democratic engagement rather than intimidation or alleged abductions.
