An unknown number of people are feared dead, while others are believed to be injured following a multiple-vehicle crash along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on Saturday morning.

The accident occurred at Kwa DC, between Salama and Sultan Hamud, involving a long-distance truck and two passenger vehicles.

The Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association of Kenya (LoDDCA) urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching the accident scene.

According to initial reports, the truck lost control before ramming into the rear of one of the buses. The bus then crashed into another passenger vehicle, believed to be a matatu.

Images and videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the container truck pushed off the road following the crash, with the driver feared to have died in the accident.

The crash also caused traffic to build up along the busy section of the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, and motorists were urged to approach the area cautiously.

Authorities had not confirmed the extent of injuries or the exact number of casualties by the time of publication.
