The Government of Kenya has signed a new healthcare partnership deal with the Government of Italy and GKSD Group that will facilitate the development of 15 hospitals across Kenya.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The agreement, signed at State House, Nairobi, provides for 13 Level 5 county referral hospitals and two Level 6 national teaching and referral hospitals in 15 counties.
The projects are being implemented under Italy's Mattei Plan for Africa and are intended to expand Kenya's hospital capacity and increase access to specialised medical services outside the country's major referral centres.
Speaking at the State House during the signing ceremony, President William Ruto revealed the 15 counties set to get the new modern hospitals.
📌 What You Need to Know
According to Ruto, the Level 6 National teaching and referral hospitals will be built in Mombasa and Uasin Gishu counties, with the president naming the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, which is currently under construction and the Mombasa National Teaching and Referral Hospital in Jomvu.
"The hospitals in question are Mombasa National Teaching and Referral Hospital in Jomvu, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret," Ruto stated.
According to the Head of State, the investment comes as Kenya seeks to address a shortage of hospital beds and improve access to specialised healthcare as part of the government's Universal Health Coverage agenda.
