In a traffic advisory issued on Sunday, June 28, the Motorists Association of Kenya (MAK) said sections of Mombasa Road heading towards Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) have been temporarily closed as work continues on the pedestrian footbridge near the Panari area.
The closure has prompted traffic diversions around the construction zone, with motorists expected to experience congestion as vehicles are redirected through alternative routes.
"Motorists are advised that sections of Mombasa Road at the Cabanas Interchange towards Nairobi CBD have been temporarily closed to facilitate the ongoing construction of the pedestrian bridge near the Panari, " the notice read in part.
📌 What You Need to Know
"Traffic diversions are currently in place, and motorists should expect delays as traffic is redirected around the construction zone," it added.
The announcement comes after several motorists faced traffic snarls along the road and diversions that led to delays as they were trapped in traffic for hours in the early morning on Sunday.
The disruption came without prior warning or a traffic advisory , which led to many facing delays as they were trapped for hours.
Others, however, were forced to turn to the Nairobi Expressway to beat delays. Some, as traffic continued to build up along the affected sections of Mombasa Road.
Following the temporary closure, those travelling towards the city, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Syokimau, and neighbouring areas, have been urged to plan their journeys early and allow extra travel time.
Road users have also been advised to follow temporary traffic signs as well as directions issued by traffic marshals stationed at the site to ease the flow.
