Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled a plan to formally integrate Kenyans living in the diaspora into Kenya's governance if elected president in 2027.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Speaking during an engagement with Kenyans living in the UK on Sunday, May 17, Gachagua said diaspora professionals will be nominated to the National Assembly, the Senate, the County Assemblies, and even the executive.
According to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, the nomination of the diaspora representatives to government will help fix what he termed as the collapse of meritocracy in government.
"I have said repeatedly that in our Senate, in our National Assembly, we must get some people nominated from the diaspora to come and represent your interest in the National Assembly and in the Senate," Gachagua stated.

At the same time, counties where Party DCP enjoys strong support would prioritise nominating diaspora representatives to county assemblies to make good laws and strengthen devolution at the grassroots.
According to the former DP, Kenya was not failing because it lacked human resource s, accusing President William Ruto of lacking professionalism, experience and integrity to run Kenya.
He cited his recent visit to the United States as an example of how devolved systems can transform local development when run professionally, saying Kenya can replicate such success by drawing on diaspora experience from the United Kingdom and elsewhere.
"Kenya is not failing because we lack human resources. Kenya is failing because the current president has no regard for meritocracy, professionalism, experience and integrity,” he added.
"He has no regard for professionalism. He has no regard for experience. He has no regard for integrity," he added, extending his attacks on President William Ruto.
Gachagua framed the proposal as part of a broader political and governance reform agenda aimed at making devolution transformative for rural areas and towns that he said have not fully benefited from the promise of county governments.
