The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Director of a security company over a Ksh5.4 million procurement fraud at a public technical institution.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The suspect is a director at Gimo Security and Investigation Services Limited, a firm that had been contracted to provide security services at Keroka Technical Training Institute (KTTI).

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a director of a security company in connection with an alleged procurement fraud involving a Ksh5.4 million security services contract at Keroka Technical Training Institute,” stated EACC.

Investigators found that the company won a security contract worth Ksh257,000 per month, running across two financial years and totaling Ksh5,448,000.

📌 What You Need to Know

EACC established that the problem started when the number of security guards deployed on the ground dropped, yet the company continued receiving full payments as though nothing had changed.

This bit raised red flags, but investigators uncovered something even more troubling during the tendering process involving the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

A Tax Compliance Certificate that the company submitted to qualify for the tender was allegedly fake and could not be traced back to the KRA systems.

“The investigations further revealed that a Tax Compliance Certificate submitted during the tendering process was allegedly falsified and did not originate from the Kenya Revenue Authority system,” stated KRA.

The EACC concluded its probe and forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) , which approved the charges.

The suspect now faces three counts, including procurement fraud, uttering a false document, and fraudulent acquisition of public property.
