Three main suspects accused of planning the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso are set to face fresh murder charges over the suspected killing of renowned city lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) approved charges against them alongside two police officers.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a statement on Thursday, October 8, the DPP announced that it had approved murder charges against the five suspects after they were linked to the lawyer’s killing.
"The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved murder charges against five suspects accused of killing lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu," the DPP stated.
"The suspects are politician Rose Mbithe Mulwa, her two children, Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa, and two police constables, Julius Kipkoech Cheruiyot and Kennedy Kipkemei Borboroi," the prosecution added.
📌 What You Need to Know
According to the DPP, the five individuals are charged with the alleged murder of prominent Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who was killed in a drive-by shooting along Magadi Road on September 9, 2025.
This comes even as three of the five suspects also face different murder charges over the killing of Dr Victoria Mutiso , who was shot on July 29, 2026, in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
The latest development comes after the arrest of a police constable on September 24, with detectives suspecting he was the gunman in Mbobu's shooting.
Following the approval of the charges, the police officers were arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts. However, both refused to take a plea on the charges against them.
The court then directed that they undergo a mental assessment at Mbagathi Hospital to determine whether they are of sound mind and can face charges.
The five suspects are expected to appear in court on October 27, where they will take a plea after the court receives the mental assessment reports of the two officers.
