The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Court Assistant and a court process server in separate bribery cases involving court services in Eldoret and Nakuru.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In Eldoret, the Commission arrested a Court Assistant attached to a Magistrate’s Court over allegations of soliciting and receiving a Ksh20,000 bribe.

The suspect was arrested on September 8, 2026, after allegedly receiving the money, which investigators say was part of a bribe sought to facilitate the issuance of a stay order stopping the auction of a parcel of land.

The arrest followed a complaint by a court user who alleged that a Magistrate had demanded Ksh50,000 to secure the stay order in a matter pending before the court.

📌 What You Need to Know

According to EACC, the Court Assistant allegedly received Ksh20,000 as part of the money sought in connection with the stay order.

The suspect was processed at Eldoret Police Station and later released on a cash bail of Ksh20,000 as investigations continue.

The arrests come against the backdrop of a wider EACC crackdown on alleged corruption involving public officials and contractors. Six former sports officials and contractors were recently arrested over a multi-billion-shilling tender linked to Kenya’s preparations to host the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

Their arrest came hours after Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga approved graft-related charges against the officials and four businessmen over the alleged misappropriation of Ksh330 million allocated for Kenya’s preparations to host the 2018 CHAN.

In a separate incident in Nakuru, EACC arrested a court process server attached to the Civil Registry at Nakuru Law Courts over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe.

The process server is accused of seeking money from a complainant in exchange for allocating a convenient mention date for the case.
