The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered public land worth Ksh51 million in Nyali, Mombasa County, ending a court battle that lasted 17 years.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, October 8, the commission said the 0.514-acre parcel belongs to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered public land valued at Ksh51 million. The property, known as MN/I/2411, measuring 0.514 acres and belonging to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), is located in Nyali, Mombasa County,” EACC stated.

The commission said the land was recovered through an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) settlement reached on September 21, bringing the 17-year dispute to an end.

📌 What You Need to Know

Under the agreement, the registered owner of the plot agreed to surrender the property and return it to the public.

The dispute over the land dates back to 2009, when EACC filed civil proceedings at the Mombasa Environment and Land Court seeking to recover the property.

Three people were named in the case, including a former Kuresoi Constituency MP.

EACC investigations established that the public land was illegally and irregularly allocated in 2000 by one of the three suspects, who was then serving as Commissioner of Lands.

According to the commission, the property was allocated to the former MP despite belonging to the KCAA.

EACC said the former MP later transferred the property to another person in the case, who subsequently became the registered owner.
