The Ministry of Education has released the approved Grade 11 textbooks and literary texts ahead of the transition of the current Grade 10 learners to Grade 11 in January 2027.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) said it has completed the evaluation and procurement process and is ready to distribute the materials to senior schools.

The list contains more than 300 approved books covering subjects including Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, French, Agriculture, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, ICT, Home Science, Electricity and Metal Work.

It also features Learner’s Books, Teacher’s Guides, literary works and reference materials intended to support teaching and learning under CBE.

📌 What You Need to Know

KICD cautioned schools, teachers, parents and other education stakeholders against buying or using curriculum materials that have not been approved.

The institute warned that using unapproved curriculum support materials in schools is unlawful and can attract legal action.

“Use of unapproved textbooks is in contravention of Section 27 of the KICD Act 2013, and anyone found culpable will face the full force of the law,” KICD wrote in a notice on Tuesday, October 6.

Teachers have also been advised to ensure that any books they recommend to parents are included on the official KICD-approved list, known as the Orange Book.

Distribution will continue until October 23 before pausing for the national examinations. It will resume on weekdays after the exams and continue until December 23.

School principals have been instructed to ensure staff are available to receive the books when they arrive.
