Aki some people have no chill whatsoever! While an entire community was counting on steady power to run their hustles and keep food from spoiling, two suspects in Anambra State, Nigeria, decided a high-voltage transformer was their personal scrap metal bonanza. But forty days for the thief came knocking very fast bana, after local vigilantes caught them dead in the act.

Caught Red-Handed: The Midnight Mission That Backfired

The suspects, identified as Nonso Okolodile and Emeka Onyeugwo, are actually natives of Nimo in Njikoka Local Government Area. Si uone the betrayal? Instead of protecting their own village's amenities, these two allegedly sneaked into the Urunkpuke Distribution Substation with tools ready to dismantle critical power assets that serve hundreds of homes.

Kumbe, the streets were watching! Members of the Nimo Vigilante Group were already on high alert following a distress report from the power firm’s Feeder Manager. Before the suspects could finish carting away the loot, the neighbourhood watch pounced on them, recovering break-in tools and parts of the stripped infrastructure right at the scene.

FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company confirmed that the duo was immediately dragged to the Nimo Divisional Police Station. Management has already requested the suspects be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka for a deeper probe so they can face the full wrath of the law, ndio wajue hawajui.

73 Hits in Nine Months? Manze, Enough is Enough!

This drama isn’t just an isolated petty theft; it is part of a massive syndicate giving power distributors sleepless nights. Just last week, FirstPower raised the alarm after recording no fewer than 73 major vandalism hits across Anambra between January and September this year alone. Imagine that, 73 times an entire area woke up in pitch darkness because a few greedy fellows wanted quick cash!

Vandalising electrical installations isn’t just damaging public equipment—it grounds local hospitals, kills small businesses, and costs utility firms insane amounts to fix. Lakini the power firm is not taking it lying down anymore, openly praising the local vigilante team for stepping up and refusing to let selfish thieves hold the community hostage.

Power to the People: Protecting the Grid

Whether you are in Nairobi dealing with sudden blackouts or in Anambra battling grid collapse, one thing is clear: public infrastructure needs community policing. Sijui why anyone thinks stealing transformer copper will make them rich, but FirstPower is now urging all residents to treat substations like personal property and whistleblow on any suspicious characters loitering around power poles.

With police now digging into the suspects' wider network, the message is loud and clear: if you touch the transformer, the community itself will switch off your freedom.

The Jukwaa Take: Plunging an entire neighbourhood into darkness just to make a quick buck off scrap metal is peak wickedness, and these two are about to find out that crime pays strictly in handcuffs.
