Former Chesikaki Councillor and Mt Elgon parliamentary aspirant Nathan Wasama Masai has reportedly been shot dead by unknown assailants at his home in Tuikut, Cheptais, Mt Elgon Constituency in Bungoma County on Thursday, August 7.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Reports indicate that the attackers allegedly raided his residence last night and shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene, leaving him with multiple gunshot injuries.

Images circulating online after the incident appeared to show bullet wounds on his chest, although the police had not officially confirmed the details by the time of publication of this article.

The killing comes only weeks after Wasama publicly declared his intention to contest the Mt Elgon parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

📌 What You Need to Know

The incident also marks the second attempt on his life within two years . In 2024, Wasama survived another shooting after gunmen attacked him in the Kapcheshari area.

During that 2024 incident, several bullets struck the rear section of his vehicle at around 7pm, but he escaped without injuries.

Beyond politics, Wasama was widely known as a businessman, philanthropist and a devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church, where he actively participated in community activities.

His death has since sparked shock and grief among leaders across the region, who condemned the killing and called for speedy investigations.

Among the first leaders to mourn him was Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, who described the killing as a senseless act of violence and urged authorities to bring those responsible to justice.

"It is with profound sadness that I learned of the tragic death of former Councillor Nathan Wasama, who was reportedly shot at his home in Tuikut, Cheptais, and later succumbed to his injuries," Barasa said.
