Former Information Communication Technology and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has unveiled a new political party as he formally begins his journey to vie for the presidency in the 2027 general election.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The new party, the People Prosperity Party (PPP), was launched on Wednesday, July 8, in Nairobi, with Owalo positioning the outfit as a vehicle for what he termed a new era of economic transformation.
According to the former CS, the party would provide a platform focused on advancing national development, economic empowerment, and improving the welfare of Kenyans.
If elected, Owalo said, his administration would focus on what he described as the "third liberation" of Kenya, centred on economic empowerment and prosperity for citizens.

"With that mandate, we shall begin the great work of the 3rd liberation of this country. An economic liberation to deliver prosperity for all," Owalo stated.
"I'm seeking presidency precisely to break from Kenya's business as usual career politics. With Eliud Owalo as the CEO of Kenya, it will not be business as usual," he added.
Owalo previously served in President William Ruto's administration as Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and Digital Economy before leaving office during changes in government in 2024 after nationwide protests.
Ruto later appointed him as the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency in the State House, a position he later resigned from in January 2026 after declaring his interest in unseating Ruto in 2027.
"Following my declaration earlier today that I intend to run for the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the year 2027, my position as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Delivery and Government Efficiency is no longer Tenable . I have therefore resigned from the position with immediate effect ," Owalo stated in a statement on January 12.
According to a former Ruto ally, he has previously served under and alongside several senior political leaders, giving his best in those roles. Still, he believes the time has come to shift his focus to directly serving Kenyans. This conviction has informed his decision to vie for the country's top office.
