Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has announced the death of his father Patrick Wangamati.

In a statement posted on Monday, May 18, the former governor communicated that his father passed away at 4am while receiving treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Bungoma.

“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of our beloved father, Mzee Patrick Wangamati, who rested this morning at 4:00am,” the statement read.

Wangamati said his father had been in and out of several health facilities, including Nairobi Hospital and Bungoma West Hospital, though he did not disclose the nature of the illness.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is among the leaders who have expressed their condolences following the death.

“I have received with great sadness news of the passing of Mzee Patrick Wangamati this morning. I had a lot of respect for this mzee bwana, he guided softly but firmly and with great patience,” he wrote.

He added, “To my brother Wycliffe, the entire Wangamati family and the Mulembe nation in general, poleni sana.”
