The ten were charged over the alleged misappropriation of Ksh330 million allocated for Kenya's preparations to host the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).
Those charged alongside Kaberia include former senior officials from the Ministry of Sports, among them a former Senior Principal Finance Officer, former Director of Administration, former Principal Accountant and former Senior Superintendent Engineer.
In a statement on Tuesday, September 8, Ingonga also announced that five companies had been charged in connection with the alleged financial misconduct.
📌 What You Need to Know
"The charges arise from investigations conducted by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), whose inquiry file was submitted to the ODPP for review and guidance," Ingonga stated.
According to the DPP, an independent and thorough evaluation of the evidence determined that sufficient grounds exist to prosecute the suspects and the companies involved.
Among the charges preferred against the accused are abuse of office, unlawful acquisition of public property, failure to comply with procurement laws, acquisition of proceeds of crime and financial misconduct.
