🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a ceremony in Isiolo town on Sunday, June 28, Liban was endorsed to vie for the Isiolo governor position in 2027, marking the beginning of an intensified competition for the position in the county.

According to elders of the Warsu community, Liban has the experience needed to champion their interests and will lead the county to prosperity in 2027.

"We realised there is a problem in Isiolo. So we sat down and decided we needed someone with experience and who is learned enough to lead this county. He can bring good governance and leadership," one elder stated.

📌 What You Need to Know

"We expect Liban to influence change to the communities living in this county. that is why we see liban as the perfect man for the job." he added.

The move comes months ahead of the 2027 general election, even as different aspiring candidates position themselves for the upcoming contest.

Liban's entry to elective politics, however, comes a few months after his dramatic exit from the government, where he served as Petroleum Principal Secretary.

He resigned after a controversy surrounding the procurement of a substandard fuel product worth over Ksh4.8 billion.

The shipment, valued at approximately Ksh4.8 billion, was acquired outside the Government-to-Government (G-2-G) framework Kenya has in place with Gulf nations for oil supply.

Liban, together with former Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) Director General Daniel Kiptoo and former Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Managing Director Joe Sang, all resigned from their positions following the scandal that allowed the sale of unauthorised fuel into the country.
