The High Court has convicted four men over the 2015 murder of former Kabete Member of Parliament George Muchai and three members of his security team, bringing a major development in a case that has been before the courts for more than a decade.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Following the convictions, Justice Kanyi Kimondo revoked the four accused persons' bond terms pending sentencing, bringing them closer to the conclusion of the long-running murder case.

Muchai, who was serving as the Kabete MP at the time, was killed alongside his two police bodyguards and driver during an attack in Nairobi on February 7, 2015.

The two bodyguards were identified as Constables Samuel Kimathi Kailikia and Samuel Lekakeny Matanta, while the driver was Stephen Ituu Wambugu. All four occupants of the vehicle were killed during the attack.

📌 What You Need to Know

Muchai and his security team were travelling along Kenyatta Avenue in the early hours of the morning when their vehicle was attacked near the Nairobi General Post Office area.

The former MP was returning from a family function when the attackers targeted the vehicle. Contemporary accounts indicated that the incident was treated as a violent robbery, with firearms and other items taken from the victims.

The prosecution subsequently presented evidence seeking to connect the accused persons to the robbery and the killings, while the defence challenged the case brought against them.

Additionally, the murder case was heard before Justice Kanyi Kimondo at the High Court in Nairobi, with the prosecution calling dozens of witnesses and presenting evidence intended to establish the circumstances surrounding the four deaths.

In September 2025, Justice Kimondo ruled that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the four men and placed them on their defence. The judge, however, acquitted three other accused persons after finding that the evidence against them was insufficient to require them to answer to the murder charges.

The prosecution's case included evidence linking the accused to the events surrounding the February 2015 attack . The four men maintained their defence during the trial and opposed the prosecution's case.
