A fresh wave of protests is looming after families of missing activists Davis Lichuma, Macmillan Kiari, and Abdulaziz Molo, alias Zizo, issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the government demanding their release.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
While speaking during a press conference on June 28, the families warned that failure to produce their loved ones would trigger countrywide demonstrations, raising fresh tension between citizens and the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“Right now, we do not know where our kids are; we are very worried. We are demanding the immediate release of our kids or we initiate a countrywide mass action,” stated one of the parents.
Davis Lichuma's mother, Margaret Lichuma, recounted that her son had visited her on June 24, a day before he vanished, and asked her to pray for him, aware that his activism carried risks.

She was later informed on June 25 that Lichuma had been arrested and was subsequently directed to file a report at Pangani Police Station, but her son remained unaccounted for.
Margaret also disclosed that her son had a pre-existing stab wound on his abdomen, heightening fears over whether he was receiving any medical attention while in custody.
Another family raised the case of Maximilian, popularly known as Maxy, who disappeared on June 20 after CCTV footage captured a numberplate-free vehicle picking him up outside his gate as he left for work.
Activist Boniface Mwangi accused the government of using a rogue police squad to abduct Lichuma, noting he was arrested on Gen Z Mashujaa Day and removed from a gazetted police station, and has since disappeared.
“Davis Lichuma was arrested on Gen Z Mashujaa Day, removed from a gazetted police station by Ruto’s rogue police squad who drive Subarus, mask their faces, and shoot innocent Kenyans and has since disappeared,” stated Boniface Mwangi.
“We demand his immediate release. It is also very unfortunate that abductions and torture are back.”
