Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that a police unit he previously accused of attempting to assassinate him has been redeployed to carry out fresh attacks and possibly "complete the job" it allegedly failed to accomplish earlier this year.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, Gachagua alleged that a group of officers operating under the code name 'Nairobi Sierra' had gathered in Mathira ahead of the planned June 25 demonstrations and were preparing to unleash violence in parts of Nyeri County.

According to Gachagua, the officers first surfaced in January when they allegedly travelled to the home of a Mathira Member of Parliament before proceeding to ACK Witima Church in Othaya, where a chaotic incident disrupted a church service he was attending.

The DCP party boss claimed the group, which he described as a 'killer squad', was heavily armed and had intended to target him during the church service but failed to achieve its mission.

📌 What You Need to Know

"Since I was targeted for assassination then by this killer squad in church, I am apprehensive; probably Mr Kipchumba Murkomen and DIG Lagat have instructed them to proceed to Wamunyoro and complete the job they failed to do in January," Gachagua claimed.

His latest remarks revive allegations he first made in January following the disturbance at ACK Witima Church in Othaya, where teargas was lobbed into the sanctuary, causing panic among congregants and forcing worshippers to flee.

At the time, Gachagua maintained that the incident was not an ordinary attack but a planned assassination attempt orchestrated by state operatives. He claimed a special squad of 12 officers had been dispatched to target him during the church service.

Speaking during a press conference on January 30, he demanded the arrest and prosecution of the officers he alleged were involved and threatened to lead nationwide demonstrations if action was not taken against them.

The former Mathira MP further claimed that the officers identified after the Othaya incident were never prosecuted but were instead promoted and assigned new duties to coordinate attacks against individuals perceived to oppose President William Ruto and his administration.

In the latest statement, Gachagua alleged that the team had now grown from 12 to 15 members and had convened in Mathira to coordinate attacks on businesses in Karatina before security officers moved in under the guise of restoring order.
