NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 24 – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged a plot to rig the 2027 General Election through a new system he claims is being developed at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

📻 Breaking It Down

Gachagua claimed the alleged scheme involves Mining Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho and the IEBC vice chairperson, Fahima Araphat ,although he stopped short of giving details of the system he said could be used to manipulate the polls.

“There’s something that they want to do at IEBC, the Mining Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho and the vice chairperson of the IEBC and there’s a system they want to bring to rig the elections,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President said he was still gathering information on the alleged plan and would only disclose the details once he had established their accuracy.

📌 What You Need to Know

He said he had deliberately avoided discussing the matter in detail because he did not want to make claims before obtaining what he described as complete information.

“And the details have remained very little. You know I don’t like discussing the details before I get them accurately,” Gachagua said.

He added that he hoped to obtain more information on the alleged scheme before leaving the country for his US tour , allowing him to establish the full picture of what he claimed was being planned.

“And so it has remained just a little for me to get the full details and pray to God by tomorrow before I leave I will have accessed the full details,” he said.

Gachagua said his intention was to make the information available to Kenyans rather than use it as leverage in political negotiations with President William Ruto or other State officials.

“So that we know from the onset and I am not the type of person who get information and goes to negotiate with the President and the State. When I get information to help Kenyans, I help Kenyans,” he said.
