Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, an ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has revealed that opposition leaders are working towards a formal coalition agreement ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Muriu said he had been instructed to prepare a draft coalition working formula that would serve as a prerequisite agreement for the leaders before it is signed by the principals.
The legislator named Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i among those who had reached out to him over the proposed agreement.
“Thank you for Reaching Out to me and committing to a Single Presidential Candidate in 2027,” Muriu said in a statement.

He said his task would be to prepare the framework as part of efforts by the opposition to agree on a common political arrangement ahead of the elections.
“I have been given unequivocal instructions as a Senior Counsel in the Alternative Government to prepare a draft coalition working formula as a prerequisite agreement ready for signing by the principals ASAP,” Muriu stated.
Muriu said he would involve other lawyers who share the group’s political objectives in preparing the document, which he said would provide a blueprint for the proposed coalition.
The development comes as opposition leaders continue negotiations on how to bring together different political parties and movements under a single arrangement ahead of the 2027 polls.
Muriu has previously said the opposition would eventually have to agree on one presidential candidate, while indicating that the delay in formalising the coalition should not be interpreted as disunity.
His latest remarks come nearly a week after the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) said it would not immediately join the Ukombozi Alliance, instead seeking to first establish separate arrangements before negotiating a wider coalition .
