Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria has filed a complaint against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua with the police over remarks allegedly linking him to deaths and violence witnessed during the Ol Kalou by-election.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Gikaria recorded a statement at Nakuru Central Police Station on Saturday, accusing the Democratic Congress Party (DCP) leader of making remarks that portrayed him as a killer who was responsible for the deaths reported during the disputed Ol Kalou by-election.
“I am here at the Nakuru Police Station, and I have come to report a criminal cybercrime in line with our laws. I have been affected by the remarks made by Gachagua that I am a killer carrying people’s blood,” Gikaria said.
The MP has also issued a demand notice through his lawyers requiring Gachagua to retract the remarks and issue an apology within 72 hours.
📌 What You Need to Know
Gikaria said failure by Gachagua to comply would result in the filing of a defamation suit against him , with his lawyers expected to take the next step on Monday.
“My lawyers have advised me to make a demand, which we have, and specifically indicated some conditions that we would want Gachagua to meet or risk going through the civil suit,” he said.
The dispute comes about a month after the controversial Ol Kalou by-election, during which Gachagua accused Gikaria of playing a role in the violence witnessed during the polls and made allegations of bribery.
Gikaria has now asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take over the matter, arguing that the allegations made against him amount to criminality and have damaged his reputation and businesses.
The fresh clash between the two leaders comes as Gachagua faces renewed political tensions in Nakuru following an attack on his convoy during his visit to the county on Friday.
On Saturday, Gachagua accused Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and Naivasha MP Samuel Arama of being behind the attack on his convoy, allegations the two leaders have not been shown to have accepted.
