Lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui has moved to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) seeking an investigation into a social media user who posted that he was linked to an alleged Ksh25.4 million bribery scheme.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a complaint dated Monday, August 17, 2026, Kinyanjui accused the social media user, identified as Michael, of publishing a false and defamatory post on X, formerly Twitter, alleging that the lawyer had been arrested over a Ksh25.4 million bribe allegedly intended to influence Supreme Court cases involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to the lawyer, while the post has since been pulled down from social media, it has caused him significant harm and will continue to do so, as he will now be associated with the bribery allegations.

"I am a renowned legal practitioner both locally and internationally, and I have Clients across the World in relation to my legal work; as such, the offensive social post so published did cause me injury," Kinyajui stated.

"As a consequence of his cited publication, I have been gravely injured in my character, credit, and reputation and my standing in the public generally and in the legal fraternity in particular has been brought to great ridicule, scandal and odium, and contempt in the eyes of right thinking members of the Society, locally and internationally," he added.

In his letter, Kinyanjui has asked DCI to investigate the social media user under Section 27(1) of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018.

"I therefore seek that the DCI investigates the criminal conduct of the said MICHAEL MUTEMBEI MAKARINA KIBUTHA, and since he alleges that he did not publish the said material, I also seek that an application be lodged under Section 27(4) of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018 to have the offensive publications forthwith removed, and pursuant to Section 27(7) of the same law, X.com hosting the web connection be also compelled to DISABLE THE "X" account of MICHAEL MUTEMBEI MAKARINA KIBUTHA, entirely," the lawyer said.

Kinyanjui further argued that the publication had damaged his reputation, professional standing and relationship with clients, saying he had received numerous calls from clients following the post.

At the same time, he clarified that he had not represented Gachagua in any of the Supreme Court cases referred to in the disputed post. However, he handled Gachagua's High Court Constitutional Petition E568 of 2024.

His demands come a day after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) also noted the circulating video and denied arresting Kinyanjui.
