Ghanaian football is preparing for another competitive Premier League campaign, with clubs across the country getting ready for the 2026/27 season. Supporters have plenty to look forward to, from title challenges and regional rivalries to the arrival of ambitious newly promoted clubs.

🇬🇭 Here's What Happened

The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that the new season will begin over the weekend of September 4–7, 2026, and run until May 28–31, 2027. The campaign will feature 18 clubs, with teams competing for the league title, continental qualification, and top-flight survival.

Medeama SC entered the campaign as defending champions. Their main objective will be to retain the title while facing strong competition from established clubs such as Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

The new campaign also brings fresh faces to the top flight. Debibi United, FC AshantiGold 04 and Port City FC earned promotion from the Division One League and will be looking to establish themselves among Ghana's leading clubs.

📌 Key Details

For newly promoted sides, the first few months will be crucial. A strong start could provide confidence, while difficult early results could place pressure on teams before the season settles into its rhythm.

The GFA has also confirmed a schedule focused primarily on weekend fixtures. The league is planned around 34 match weekends, with no regular midweek fixtures, a move designed to reduce travel demands and support player welfare.

Derby matches remain among the biggest attractions in Ghanaian football. They bring local pride, strong crowds, and added pressure for players and coaches.

The 2026/27 fixture list includes several notable regional contests. The Ashanti Derby will see FC AshantiGold 04 face Asante Kotoko, while the Capital Derby includes Vision FC against Hearts of Oak.

The Brong Ahafo region will also have several important fixtures involving Debibi United, Young Apostles, Berekum Chelsea, and Bechem United. Meanwhile, clubs in the Western region will compete in a series of matches involving Medeama, Basake Holy Stars, Bibiani Gold Stars, and FC Samartex 1996.

These matches could have a major influence on the league table. A derby win delivers three points, but it also provides momentum and confidence for the matches that follow.
