Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has been plunged into mourning following the death of his brother, Silas Barasa.

Governor Barasa confirmed the passing on Sunday, June 14, saying his brother died after a short illness.

"It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of my younger brother, Silas Barasa, following a short illness," the governor stated.

According to the governor, his late brother was known for his generosity and willingness to help others, qualities that endeared him to family members, friends and all who knew him.

"Silas was a humble, kind-hearted, and hardworking man whose generosity and willingness to help endeared him to many. His passing is a profound loss to our family, relatives, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him," he added.

He noted that funeral and burial arrangements will be communicated at a later date as the family comes to terms with the loss.

Barasa further asked the members of the public for privacy and prayers during this difficult period, wishing his brother eternal rest.

"Further details regarding funeral and burial arrangements will be communicated in due course. May Silas' soul rest in eternal peace," he said.

Local leaders and residents have since sent messages of condolence to the Governor's family.

The tragedy comes at a personal low for the county boss, just weeks after he celebrated a major academic milestone, having successfully graduated with a PhD from Kenyatta University.
