The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has extended the application window for continuing students, amid delays in the release of funds.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a statement on Monday, September 7, HELB said that subsequent applicants now have the opportunity to continue with their applications until September 21.

"Attention All Continuing Students! The HELB Subsequent Loan Application deadline has been EXTENDED to September 21 2026," HELB announced.

According to the board, the extension is to allow those who might not have applied for the government education loan to do so and benefit from it.

📌 What You Need to Know

Also, the window gives applicants who have faced difficulties in the application process relief, offering hope to students who feared they might have been locked out.

"Whether you got caught up with network issues or just needed a little push, this is your moment. Don't let this extra window pass you by," the board added.

The application window initially closed on August 31, after opening on July 8. However , following complaints from several students who claimed they could not proceed with the application, the board has now extended the window to September 21.

The new dates now correspond to the deadline for first-time applicants, which was also extended to September 21, following directives from the Ministry of Education.

According to Education CS Julius Ogamba, some first time applicants were locked out of the loan and scholarship application, hence the directive.

“Recognising that some eligible students and trainees may not have met the initial deadline on account of various causes, the Universities Fund and the Higher Education Loans Board have been directed to extend the application window for all eligible applicants to 21st September, 2026,” the CS stated.
