📋 Breaking It Down
The High Court in Nakuru has recalled for review the grant of probate issued to the widow of former marathon star Samuel Wanjiru to include the interest of a child born out of wedlock.
The grant of probate had been issued to his widow, Teresia Njeri and was confirmed on October 30, 2018.
However, Samuel’s other partner, Judy Wambui, filed an application in 2025 seeking the revocation of the grant, which she said had been obtained through fraud after accusing Ms Njeri of concealing material facts in her petition for the grant.
📌 What You Need to Know
In the application, Ms Wambui claimed to be a widow of Samuel, having lived together as husband and wife from 2009 until his death in 2011 in a union that resulted in the birth of a son.

She told the court that the marathoner visited her parents in 2007 and proposed to marry her. The parents, she said, consented on the condition that she completes her college education.
Ms Wambui claimed the former marathoner paid her college fees at Tracom College between 2007 and 2009, upon which they started living together in Nakuru, with the sports star taking care of her needs.
By the time of his death, Ms Wambui claims to have been pregnant, noting that the sudden death cut short the plans by the athlete to introduce her and the unborn child to his mother.
